As much as we love watching Bollywood movies set in exotic foreign locations, it’s equally exciting to spot Indian locations in a Hollywood film.
So here are some Hollywood movies that were partly shot in India.
1. Principle – Bombay
The long-awaited film by Christopher Nolan, Principle was the first to hit theaters amid the coronavirus. The movie was shot in several parts of Mumbai like the Colaba Causeway, in front of the famous Cafe Mondegar, Breach Candy Hospital and behind the iconic Taj Hotel.
2. Mining – Ahmedabad
The hit Netflix movie starring Chris Hemsworth and Ranveer Hooda was mostly shot in India. The many action scenes that were supposed to take place in Dhaka were actually shot in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

3. The Dark Knight Rises – Jodhpur
Do you remember the particular scene where Bruce Wayne AKA Batman escapes from prison? Well, this scene was shot in the Mehrangarh fort of Jodhpur.

4. Slumdog Millionaire – Bombay
Starring Anil Kapoor, Irrfan Khan, Dev Patel and Frieda Pinto, this film won numerous international accolades. The film was shot in the slums of Mumbai and depicts the life of the people there.

5. Lion – Calcutta
Based on the non-fiction book A long way home by Saroo Brierley, this book is about a 5-year-old child who is separated by his family, picked up by an orphanage and then adopted by a family in Tasmania. It shows how he tries to find his family once he grows up. Her childhood part was filmed in Kolkata.

6. Mission Impossible 4 – Bombay
The fourth installation in the spy series starring Tom Cruise was filmed in the narrow lanes of Mumbai. It also starred Anil Kapoor.

7. Eat, Pray, Love – Delhi and Pataudi
This film starring Julia Roberts was all about self-discovery. A quarter of this film was shot in India when Julia goes to an ashram to find herself. This part was mainly shot in Delhi and Pataudi.

8. The Strange Story of Benjamin Button – Varanasi
The film starred Brad Pitt as Benjamin Buttons. Some of the scenes in the film were shot in Varanasi when Benjamin was going through an age reversal process.

9. The Darjeeling Limited – Jodhpur
Directed by Wes Anderson, this film was shot in parts of Jodhpur, Rajasthan. The film starred Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody.

10. Life of Pi – Pondicherry and Kerala
Starring Irrfan Khan and Tabu, this film was shot in various locations in India including Pondicherry and Kerala.

11. Subcontracting – Mumbai
The film was shot mostly in parts of Mumbai. It was about a foreigner who is subcontracted to India and falls in love with an Indian woman.

12. A Mighty Heart – Pune
The film starred Angelina Jolie as Mariane Pearl, the widow of journalist Daniel Pearl who was kidnapped and killed by Al-Qaeda. Although the film was shown in Pakistan, it was shot in Pune and Mumbai.

13. The namesake – Kolkata
Based on the book of the same name by Jhumpa Lahiri, it was directed by Mira Nair. It starred Tabu and Irrfan Khan. It was filmed in Kolkata.

14. Best Exotic Marigold Hotel – Jaipur and Udaipur
Starring Judie Dench, Maggie Smith and Dev Patel, most of the film’s scenes were shot in Jaipur and Udaipur. The film is about British pensioners who come to India for vacation.

15. Octopussy – Udaipur
The 1983 James Bond movie had some scenes shot in India. Most of the film was shot in palaces based in Udaipur.

16. Zero Dark Thirty – Chandigarh
Parts of this movie were shot in Chandigarh but everything was made to look like Lahore and Abbottabad. It was dramatically based on the manhunt for Osama Bin Laden. The filming locations in Chandigarh were the premises of the Punjab Engineering College and the canteen of the DAV College.

17. Bourne Supremacy – Goa
The second in the series of spy movies starring Matt Damon was filmed in several parts of Goa.

18. Jobs – Delhi and Vrindavan
Starring Ashton Kutcher as Steve Jobs, parts of this biographical drama were filmed in Delhi and Vrindavan.

19. Million Dollar Arm – Mumbai
This biographical sports drama about baseball pitchers Rinku Singh and Dinesh Patel was mostly filmed in Mumbai.

20. The Hundred Foot Journey – Mumbai
A film that revolves around a family that moves to Europe from Mumbai. It has lots of Indian cuisine and features Juhi Chawla and Om Puri.
