But if the opportunity presents itself. Winstead would be more than happy to change gears.
Probably leaving – Dave Bautista
Bautista made the world laugh with his legendary comedic timing as Drax the Destroyer of the Guardians. He also stole the show in many scenes from the Avengers movies. But the actor was approaching his limits. He had publicly stated that he would not reprise the role of Drax after GOTG Volume 3. James Gunn and Marvel have honored that wish. Bautista is leaving the MCU for good after the Guardians’ third film.
Want to join – Adam Sandler
Sandler was in the race to voice Rocket Raccoon in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1. The actor Gunn chose at the time ended up being Bradley Cooper. Sandler would still love to make his mark in the MCU, according to Collider. He was determined to be a part of the GOTG movies. After losing to Cooper, the star of The Waterboy auditioned for the role of Groot. Unfortunately, Vin Diesel got ahead of him.
Probably Leave – Jeremy Renner
Renner once took to social media to implore Marvel Studios to do a series on Hawkeye while there is still time. Hawkeye is a very taxing character for the actor to play and he is not getting any younger. In an interview with the South China Morning Post, Renner said: “I don’t want to be in my 50s in pantyhose.” The Hawkeye series will likely be his last outing as Clint Barton. The mantle torch will be passed to Kate Bishop of Hailee Steinfeld.
Do you want to join – Asa Butterfield
Marvel Studios scoured hundreds of actors to pick the perfect one as Peter Parker. Tom Holland was lucky because the role almost went to Sex Education star Asa Butterfield once. The actor, fresh off his success in action and sci-fi films like Ender’s Game, was the prime candidate for the role. Butterfield expressed regret that he didn’t get the role of Spider-Man in Homecoming. But he also said to Collider that something better came out of it. He starred in Sex Education.
Probably Leave – Gwyneth Paltrow
Paltrow’s role in Pepper Potts won many hearts in Iron Man’s first film. But the character’s waning presence in subsequent films was one indication. Pepper is an Iron Man supporting character. And with the MCU no longer having Tony Stark in the mix, Paltrow will soon be out of the equation in future phases of the MCU. His energies are now channeled more into his thriving lifestyle brand – Goop.
Want to join – Timothée Chalamet
Asa Butterfield wasn’t the only famous actor in the race to play Spider-Man. Timothée Chalamet was also a major competition for Tom Holland. The actor claims Hollywood journalist, that he was in “total panic: after this episode.
Probably Leave – Nick Fury
Samuel L Jackson’s original contract with Marvel was for nine films. There was a contract extension after Far From Home, but his line of credit for the film is coming to an end. After Secret Invasion, the actor will have to be delighted with a new contract with the Studio. But given that nearly everyone on the original Avengers roster is gone, it’s time for Nick Fury to take his leave as well. It may only be a matter of time.
Would you like to join – Ryan Phillipe
It was a pretty tight call. But miraculously, the world got their Captain America in the form of Chris Evans. Ryan Phillipe was the dark horse of this race. The actor can star in action-packed movies. He starred in the famous Shooter series and in Flags Of Our Fathers. In a 2020 interview with SYFY WIRE, the actor said:
“I am really in [Captain America]. It would be fun. My son would love it. Six years ago.
Would you like to join – Liam Hemsworth
The Hunger Games actor was racing to play the role of Thor. The worst part is that his younger brother won the role. At first glance, Liam was clearly the favorite. He received several reminders while Chris only received one. It was Joss Whedon who convinced Marvel to give Chris another chance and the actor nailed him as Thor, winning the role.
