From cultural hotspots to glamorous additions, there’s more to the emirate than its flashy plating.

Having transformed in a short time, Dubai has been seen around the world in several blockbuster movies starring A-list celebrities.

Vanguard, (2020)


This action-thriller features an array of high-profile locations around Dubai. Famous hotspots such as Downtown Dubai, Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall were featured in the film. Starring one of Hollywood’s most popular personalities, Jackie Chan appears in this action-packed adventure film.

Star Trek Beyond (2016)

This space opera film was the first of its kind to be shot in Dubai. The emirate witnessed a major sci-fi production in Dubai Studio City with robust infrastructure and advanced filming equipment at that time. Several iconic locations such as Burj Al Arab, Central Park at DIFC and Al Mas Tower also made their way to the film.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015)

All star wars fans raved when the United Arab Emirates was seen on the big screen in this famous film. A few kilometers from Dubai was an extraordinary setting with a life-size market built in the desert.

Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol (2011)

Burj Khalifa is considered the centerpiece of this hugely popular film. With Tom Cruise scaling the tallest building in the world, it certainly became a defining moment for this iconic franchise. The scene has gained traction around the world, making it the talk of the town for many. One of the other popular scenes included was a chase scene in the emirate’s sandstorm. The world premiere took place in Dubai on December 7, 2011.

City of Life (2009)

Shot entirely in Dubai, this multicultural film depicts several aspects of daily life in the most subtle way. From Dubai Creek to historic parts of the city, various authentic elements have been captured in the film. The lives of individuals from three different ethnicities are captured, allowing the film to make headway around the world.

Syrian (2005)

This geopolitical film was shot on five continents, with the Middle East being a big part of it. From the sandy desert to the vast expanse of open spaces, some of the most sought after scenes were filmed in the iconic emirate
