The Chase’s Anne Hegerty has been called a “prostitute” by comedian Dane Baptiste after joking that she shared a bath with two rugby players.

The rugby-inspired innuendo was made during yesterday’s celebrity episode of the quiz, which saw The Governess take on Dane, Anita Rani, Mark Pougatch and Rugby World Cup referee Nigel Owen.

As Nigel walked up to Anne, she joked, “I wasn’t good as a rugby referee.

“I sent two players for an early bath, then I went to join them. It was a good day.”

After the naughty joke, Nigel asked his teammates what he should play for when comedian Dane made a cheeky innuendo using rugby terminology.

Dane said: “I feel like you and The Governess have both played rugby, do what you’re comfortable with because you’re half of this team and you don’t want to be induced misled by a prostitute. “

The joke left studio audiences and host Bradley Walsh chuckling as Dane quickly backed down and insisted, “These are all accepted rugby terms.”

Unimpressed by the joke, Ann teased, “You’re a marked man.”

However, that wasn’t the end of the pair’s playful banter, as Dane raised an eyebrow at Bradley when he commented on Anne’s prowess.

Contemplating his offer, the comedian said: “As attractive as the housekeeper is …”

At what the 61-year-old presenter interrupted: “What !!?”

Standing up, Dane admitted: “You’ve seen the Bradley sequins,” referring to Ann’s shimmering shirt, and added: “I’ll go for £ 8,000.”

Despite losing Nigel, Dane, Anita and Mark pocketed £ 40,000 for each of their chosen charities after winning £ 120,000.

Commenting on the incredible win, Bradley said: “Well done. Seven pushback attempts five made, Chaser needed four.

“£ 120,000, absolutely awesome and that’s one of our biggest wins I think for charity. Shiny, shiny stuff.”

The Chase airs weekdays at 5 p.m. on ITV.
