Bradley Walsh is a household name across the UK, thanks to his long and eclectic career from professional footballer to soap opera star, TV presenter to pantomime actor.
However, at one point Bradley almost went international – he almost landed a role in a Hollywood movie opposite Jason Statham and Brad Pitt.
In an interview with the Irish mirror Bradley said that even though his father “didn’t have any of these,” he persevered in his showbiz career by taking every opportunity he could.
However, that approach came back to bite him somewhat when his chance to star in a Guy Ritchie movie was wasted when the filmmakers found out he had animated Wheel of Fortune.
The 61-year-old attributes his success to constant evolution, the Irish Mirror reported.
He said: “You never know what’s going on around the corner. There’s only one thing – and that’s more corners. What you need to do is deal with them on a day-to-day basis. .
“Comics make good actors. Actors don’t make good comics. I said, ‘OK, I’ll try it’ and it worked.
“It was absolutely deliberate. The problem we have in our industry is that people rank you.
“And once you’re cataloged and labeled, you’re stuck.
“You have to keep moving. The girl who runs the BBC or the guy who runs ITV may keep his job for three years and the next person may not like what I’m doing. Before you know where you are, you’re gone. You have to constantly evolve. You really do. “
And yet Bradley’s efforts to try and have it all have already cost him a job in a Hollywood movie.
He said: “Guy Ritchie wanted me in Snatch.
“I went to sit in their office and there was Jason Statham, Stephen Graham, Vinnie Jones. Brad Pitt couldn’t come. But there was Trudie Styler and Sting.
“Unbeknownst to me, they found out that I was hosting The Wheel of Fortune. And the Wheel of Fortune host will not bring bums to the seats or the credibility of a Brad Pitt movie.
“So they must have let me down. But once a door closed …
“Eighteen months later I got a call for the Lock Stock TV series and Two Smoking Barrels. They wanted me to read for this part of Larry Harmless, a murderous builder.
“So I didn’t get the part in Snatch. But I did get the part in a TV series.”
