Last month news broke that Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck were renting a condo in Austin. History lit up the internet, as only Bennifer 2.0 news can, which led to some wild speculation about where and if the mega-celebrity couple would appear in the city.

On Saturday October 16th, we got our first shots of Affleck on the set of his new movie, Hypnotic, a thriller film by San Antonio-born, Austin-based director Robert Rodriguez. The film is an action thriller, according to Deadline, which follows a detective who becomes embroiled in a mystery involving his missing daughter.

In a video posted by Britain’s Daily Mail, Affleck films a scene with 12-year-old Hala Finley, who plays her daughter, in what appears to be Mueller Lake Park. The Mueller development, which was built on the city’s former airport in East Austin, is adjacent to Rodriguez’s Troublemaker Studios.

Hypnotic isn’t the only Hollywood production filming in central Texas. On October 1, the Town of Hutto confirmed that filming officially began on Proof of Love: A True Story of Passion and Death in the Suburbs, a Texas Monthly series that became a book that became a HBO Max series. Oscar winner Nicole Kidman is producing the project, which stars Elizabeth Olsen and was adapted for the small screen by David E. Kelley.

Based on a true story, the series is filmed in both Kyle, Texas and downtown Hutto, and tells the story of “two couples going to church enjoying family life in a small town of Texas until someone picks up an ax. ” On October 14, WarnerMedia released the first glimpse of Olsen as Candy Montgomery, accused of killing her friend Betty Gore in 1980.

Proof of love… is the 20th production to be shot in the small town, according to the town of Hutto. It will be released in 2022.
