Some actors are as versatile as a Swiss army knife. Others, however, make a living playing the same kind of character over and over…
There are actors who must have been chameleons in a past life. Christian Bale, Stanley Tucci, Tilda Swinton, Daniel Day-Lewis… We could name several actors who have played a wide range of versatile and very different characters over the course of their careers.
However, there are a few actors who are typecast and play the same role over and over again. And once an actor has been cast, it’s incredibly difficult to break free of that mold – not everyone can pull a Jason Bateman (if you’re not sure what that means, Jason Bateman has been typed for years until he starred in ozark).
You still don’t know what a typical actor is? Here are five actors who play the same or extremely similar characters in every project they’re in.
Dwayne The Rock Johnson
Ever since Dwayne Johnson’s acting career took off after stepping away from professional wrestling, he’s basically played the same character in everything he’s ever done. A tough but friendly guy, full of muscles, who has a great sense of humor. That doesn’t mean we don’t like seeing Rock on screen though…
Coolidge, best known for playing Stifler’s mother in American pie and Paulette in Revenge of a Blonde, always seems to play a sexualized bimbo which is damn hilarious. His roles in The white lotus, A Cinderella story and Click on as well as the two previously mentioned roles certainly fit that description!
What is super bad, Juno, Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, First year and Scott Pilgrim vs the world have in common? Cera plays the same goofy but adorably geeky character in all of them. Unfortunately for Cera, the archetypal role that made him famous has aged, and now his box office draw is far from what it used to be.
Trejo always plays a badass. Seriously, every character played by Trejo has all the same traits and characteristics. If you sit and watch Machete, Heat, Desperado or even the children’s movie spy on kids, you’ll see that Trejo essentially plays the same character in all of them; however, we have to say it does a great job every time.
Tough, tomboyish and takes no prisoners. That could easily describe every character Rodriguez has played, whether it’s his role in the Fast and Furious franchise, Lost Where Avatar. Rodriguez is well aware, however, that she is a typecast actress; she said The reading list“I’m here to entertain people and make a statement about female empowerment and strength and that’s what I’ve been doing for the past 10 years, and people may call it typed, but I cataloged myself and put myself in that box to say no to whatever came on my plate.
