Romance is one of the fan favorite genres. We can’t imagine romantic comedy movies or shows without any lip locks on the screen. However, according to the New York Times report, in a 25-second short film by Thomas Edison in 1896, audiences witnessed the first-ever on-screen kiss. Just like first kisses, it was quite awkward. It quickly became a trend still loved by the public.
Hollywood movies and shows have made kissing scenes not uncomfortable to watch, even if you watch them as a family. Although on-screen kissing is one of their favorite things to watch, there are a few stars who refused to do so.
Kirk Cameron is best known for his role as Mike Seaver on the ABC sitcom Growing Pains. He was also nominated for two Golden Globe Awards. However, in the 2008 movie Fireproof, Cameron had to share an onscreen kiss with Erin Bethea who played his wife, but Cameron didn’t. To film the scene, the filmmakers had to dress Cameron’s real wife, Chelsea Noble, as the female character and film the kiss scene in the shadows to blur the difference between Noble and Bethea.
Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev
Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev starred as the two lovebirds in The Vampire Diaries. Their steamy kiss in the rain as Damon and Elena in The Vampire Diaries is always talked about. However, Somerhalder and Dobrev refused to do this scene. During the PaleyFest panel for The Vampire Diaries, Somerhalder shared, “First of all, it’s really cold in Georgia, so I don’t think that’s such a good idea.” The actor revealed that it was minus 30 degrees at the time, which froze his jaw muscles. Meanwhile, Dobrev revealed that she had icicles in her hair at the time and later fell ill.
Will Smith is one of Hollywood’s greatest actors. However, in 1993 SIX DEGREES OF SEPARATION, inspired by the true story of David Hampton, Smith’s character was gay and you must have seen him kiss his co-star. However, according to the Independent, the film’s director, Fred Schepisi, was furious when Smith refused to kiss a male co-star on camera. Smith insisted that the scene be shot from behind, which allowed him to fake the kiss.
