Thousands of people reacted to Johnny Depp’s Instagram post that he posted to announce the release of his movie “Minamata”.
No prominent Hollywood actor was among the nearly one million people who liked Depp’s photo on the Facebook-owned app.
Johnny Depp took to Instagram on Friday asking his fans to check out his new movie “Minamata” which is hitting theaters in the United States.
Sharing several stills from the film, the actor wrote, “In 2019, just before the pandemic hit, we made a film about giving a voice to the voiceless. Such a theme seems more important than ever today.
With all my love and respect to the strong, beautiful and brave people of Minamata. Their story hits US theaters today.”
Johnny Depp lost a libel battle in London last year which was seen as the final straw in his dwindling career as a major movie star.
Depp, 57, better known as the swaggering Jack Sparrow in the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ franchise, had sued a British tabloid that called him a ‘wife beater’ during his tumultuous relationship with his ex-wife, actress Amber Heard.
Depp had told the court he had never been violent towards his ex-wife and his lawyers called the decision ‘perverse because it is disconcerting’, and said it would be ridiculous for him not to appeal .
