Actors David Barrera and Maria Canals-Barrera are known for their roles in the series “To kill him” and “The Wizards of Waverly Place.” The couple have been married for over 20 years and have two children. Today they will star together in the recent movie “Strong fathers, strong daughters” The original Pure Flix movie. It is inspired by the best-selling book of the same title by Meg Meeker.

It’s the story of a father of three children who tries to keep his little girls. But he felt like his daughters were getting away from him. It was then that he turned to God and gave up control over the lives of his children. Maria said that through the film, they wanted to let fathers know that they were enough.

“I imagine a lot of dads are focusing on the gaps or feeling unprepared just because they’re a different gender and think moms have to deal with certain things when really a dad takes over and has these intimate conversations with their daughters are exactly what the daughter needs,” she explained.

“Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters”

Fathers just need to be there for their children. They don’t have to be perfect and beyond reproach, they just have to be involved.

“I think it’s encouraging for dads to know that it doesn’t matter where you think you have gaps; the fact that you care about her and that you are present and want to be there for her is 80% of that. So don’t get caught up in being perfect as a dad, just get involved because a daughter needs to know that her dad wants to know what she has to say.

She also shared the most important thing this movie tries to teach all parents, that they should rely on God.

“We don’t realize as parents…but there’s a line where if you infuriate your kids it’s not effective, and acceptance of who they are as adults, because [in the film], she is an adult, knowing that she has her own distinct God-given purpose. It’s a nice walk next door [them] as God does with us. This is what an earthly father is called to do with his adult children. We know that as parents this is a change we are making as our children are now older teenagers. Which is not easy,” she noted.
