Viewers of The Chase got a bad taste in their mouths as they accuse host Bradley Walsh of using a contestant’s age as an excuse for his wrong answers.
Four new players came into the limelight on Thursday’s episode of the ITV quiz show (May 27) which featured Katie.
Although the 24-year-old Middlesex analyst appeared confident, she struggled in the first round.
After correctly answering just two questions during the Cash Builder, Katie pocketed £ 2,000 which prompted Bradley to tell the contestant that she was: ‘Lost out there by your age’.
But it looks like Bradley’s encouraging words have backfired on viewers.
Katie accepted the lower £ 1,000 offer in the head-to-head with Mark ‘The Beast’ Labbett, but the team were caught in the final chase and returned home empty-handed.
Viewers weren’t happy with Katie’s string of wrong answers and complained that Bradley’s endearing comment seemed to be an excuse for Katie’s incorrect answers and was rather condescending.
Taking to Twitter to broadcast their opinions, one fan said: “Not defeated by his age. Defeated by his lack of general knowledge about #TheChase.
A second intervened: “Bradley mentions a player’s age horn !!! #thechase.”
A third said: “Patronize the horn age #TheChase.”
“‘Before your time there, Katie.” Now Brad is encouraging the excuse, “wrote one fan.
“Defeated by your age”. This is no excuse for a low level of general knowledge! Added another.
