Now, with Love Island back on TV and some thoughts on how to look good on our summer vacation, Jono Castano has some great toning tips for us lesser mortals.
He says, “The key is to make the changes slowly but steadily. When we go too fast and set unattainable goals for ourselves, we set ourselves up for failure and lose our motivation.
Here, he tells how to do everything, from blitzing moobs to getting a peachy ass …
What’s the best way to target belly fat?
Jono says, “As cliché as it sounds, you can never beat a bad diet. Nutrition is essential for getting lean and toned abs. When a client comes to me and wants to lose weight, our focus is on a calorie deficit, which means eating fewer calories than the calories you burn daily from your basal metabolic rate, daily activities, and exercise. There are so many abdominal exercises out there, but my favorite would probably be the hanging knee lifts.
What’s the best way to get rid of those moobs?
Jono says, “A man’s breasts come from excess fat in the chest. So the best way to get rid of it is to reduce body fat and tone chest muscles. Unfortunately, we cannot choose where we lose fat from. So the overall way to lose fat is to burn more calories than what we are consuming. The best way to develop the pectoral muscle is to hit it from different angles. A good example is doing the barbell chest press, the inclined chest press, and the declining chest press.
Is there a good exercise for toning the legs?
Jono says, “There are so many exercises for toning the legs. I would suggest combining compound movements, which include multiple muscles in the legs, with targeted muscle exercises. A specific leg workout that I would do would focus on the quadriceps, hamstrings, glutes, calves, inner and outer thighs. Simple as it is, I would say that the exercise that really uses most of the leg muscles is the squat. Squats incorporate a range of muscles in the legs and different variations can definitely help tone the legs.
How to get good biceps?
Jono says, “The best way to keep the muscles engaged is to keep them energized, this is where the timing of each rep is important. I would suggest that, if you are doing a bicep curl, the timing could be five seconds on your way up, five seconds on your way down, and straight up when you hit the bottom. It will definitely burn your biceps, but it’s definitely worth it if you want to see these arms grow! “
What is a good exercise to tone your butt?
Jono says, “A good activation for the glutes is to pose side clams, bodyweight glute bridges, and strip crab steps. My most used exercise is weighted hip thrusts followed by high repetition exercise like explosive squats, to keep them engaged for longer.
How to stay in shape on vacation?
Jono says, “The holidays are probably the easiest time to exercise because we are usually more active. Try to add walking where you can, especially if you are near a beach. Go for a walk or run on the sand and you can do a bodyweight circuit with squats, lunges, push-ups and explosive sit-ups.
What about our summer diets?
Jono says: “In summer, comfort food is less popular, so fresh salads and smoothies are more enjoyable. We also tend to be a little more thirsty, which can be misinterpreted as hunger. So we want to make sure we stay hydrated and drink at least two to three liters of water per day. I always suggest staying away from sugary drinks,
