Sunrise Host David ‘Kochie’ Koch Reveals The Worst Hollywood Celebrities He’s Ever Interviewed

David ‘Kochie’ Koch has interviewed hundreds of celebrities over his 18 years hosting Australia’s most popular breakfast show, Sunrise.

And while reflecting on his encounters with Hollywood’s biggest stars, the 64-year-old ranked some of his notable interviewees from one to ten.

speaking on The Kyle and Jackie O Show On Wednesday, Kochie sang the praises of an iconic British actress before slamming a major player in the music industry, as well as an acclaimed actor.

Kochie, who hosts Sunrise alongside Sam Armytage, was first asked to rank Canadian superstar Justin Bieber.

‘It’s a three! He was just a kid, well he was then. [He was] Just a little diva. One of our floor managers was positioning him for a song and kindly said, ‘This is where you’re standing’, and he said, ‘Don’t you dare touch me!’ he said. affirmed.

“But on the face of it, he’s kind of grown and matured and he’s quite a good boy now.”

Kochie then gushed about American pop star Katy Perry, saying: ‘She’s bright, talented, quick-witted and effervescent. She did better weather than our meteorologist. I would definitely rate it an eight or a nine!

Radio host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson replied: ‘I agree with you on Katy Perry. Since we know her, from the very beginning of her career until now, she has never changed and has always been an absolute sweetheart.

Ouch!  Later, Kochie ranked some of her most memorable celebrity interviews over the years, on a scale of one to ten.  Asked about meeting Justin Bieber (pictured) ten years ago, the Breakfast TV presenter said:

Ouch! Kochie was first asked to rank Canadian superstar Justin Bieber (pictured). ‘It’s a three! He was just a brat, well, he was back then,’ the Breakfast TV host said.

Next, Kochie was asked to rate American actor and comedian Michael Richards.

“He was boring, and probably would have been a four!” he said.

“I’m a big Seinfeld fan and I was really looking forward to interviewing him. Everyone wanted him to be funny, so I gave him a line to be funny, and he was dead serious!

“So I was like, ‘He’s Michael Richards.’ So I gave him a serious line, and he was funny! I went, ‘Who are we interviewing here?’

Radio host Kyle Sandilands noted, “When you’re doing an interview you expect everyone to be on their A-game because they’re usually selling something – a show, a book, a movie.”

Jackie added: “It’s amazing how many don’t give like a**t. Don’t bother then. I’d rather no interview than this.

Kochie agreed, saying, “I interrupted people and said, ‘You obviously don’t want to be here, so it’s a waste of our viewers’ time,’ and moved on.”

Asked about X-Files actor David Duchovny, 60, the breakfast TV star admitted he found him “a bit boring”.

“I would give him a four. He’s a little too serious. You know when people talk about their job and their background? I’m lost. Snore, stop it! he said.

Kochie’s enthusiasm suddenly skyrocketed when asked about his experiences with Dame Julie Andrews.

‘She’s a ten! I’m a huge Sound of Music fan, so I had high expectations. I met her and fell in love. She was divine, he said.

Discussing their meeting in more detail, David added: “We interviewed her on the show and then [a few weeks later] it was Disneyland’s 40th anniversary. We were there that morning on the red carpet, and we were stuck between the two big American chains that didn’t talk to us all afternoon.

“She was the ambassador for this Disney birthday, and she walks down the red carpet and looks and says, ‘Hello, Kochie, how are you? and come and chat!’

Kochie also had fond memories of her interview with Hollywood hunk Matt Damon.

‘Fantastic man! I walked into Matt’s interview, sat down with him, and he said, “I love your boots.” He was absolutely charming and normal. He’s a great guy and a ten,” he said.

Although he neglected to give it an out of ten rating, Kochie also noted how impressed he was with Halloween star Jamie Lee Curtis.

In stark contrast, Jackie explained that her interview with the original Scream Queen didn’t go as they had hoped.

‘Jamie was fabulous…until I told him Kyle was a [Donald] Trump supporter, and she lit a dime! ” she said.

Kyle added: “She got up, got mad and walked out. In the end, she gave me the look of death!

Kochie later dubbed Hugh Jackman “fantastic”, but joked that he took offense to the actor jumping into the pool when they had both stayed at the same resort years earlier.

“He was shirtless. Everyone was gobsmacked at him’: Kochie then dubbed Hugh Jackman (pictured) ‘fantastic’ but joked he was offended by the actor jumping into the pool when they were all the two remained in the same complex years earlier.

“He was training for Wolverine. He comes back from a race and dives into the swimming pool, everyone is gaga! Despite that, he would be a ten,” he said.

When Jackie asked how the Blade Runner star reacted when his interview was cut short, Kochie joked, “Well, you couldn’t tell. He had a grumpy face the whole time!

Jackie added that she and Kyle had a similar experience with Harrison, saying, “We went to his hotel room and we had the same vibe.”
