Taapsee Pannu calls out critics for giving preference to Hollywood films over Indian films

Mumbai, India – Bollywood actor Taapsee Pannu expressed his disappointment on social media at alleged “personal digs” from critics who gave negative reviews to his latest film, “Haseen Dillruba.”

“Film reviews are very subjective,” she said. “Criticism of the film and the character is welcome and helps me learn and improve, which I feel has enormous significance, but the personal digs are what bring a reviewer down to a troll (sic).”

She also talked about how some critics give preference to Hollywood film “The Tomorrow War” over Hindi film “Haseen Dillruba”. Both films were released on July 2.

Pannu did not hesitate to Express his opinion.

“Mr. Hollywood hai na, sab chalta hai (Sir, it’s Hollywood, so it’s all good). It’s always ambitious, whatever the flaws. Yahan hum jitna marzi experiment kar le it is always insufficient and more, we seem ‘redundant’ to them no matter what we do (no matter how many experiments we do here, it always fails. Maybe working in LA will help,” she said.

Pannu’s online skirmishes with critics kept netizens entertained.

“Critics have every right to say whether a performance is repetitive or lacking in scope,” said one reviewer. “It is not necessary to agree with the assessment, but it is not a ‘personal attack’. It’s really a commentary on your craft. Calling them a ‘troll’ for saying that, on the other hand, is a personal attack (sic).”

Pannu responded in kind.

“A movie review, a character review, and this portrayal review is a REVIEW, and you can throw it away or like it, totally within the capacity of the respected reviewer (sic)”, noted Pannu. “But when you get to say that the particular actor is just changing clothes and doing the same thing, that’s a PERSONAL DIG. Agree to disagree.”

Pannu had his supporters in this Twitter war.

“Movie critics tell their chosen audience what they would like. Movie critics tell their audience what they SHOULD like. Knowing the difference helps. Alright, @taapsee,” one said. ‘them.

Agree with him, Pannu noted that they should avoid doing personal digs and re-watching the characters and the film.

“Exactly! Also, they should review THE MOVIE and CHARACTERS, not personally search the people portraying those characters, and assess and judge their career choices in a movie review (sic),” she said.

“The audience has their own brain, let them decide what they like (sic)!”

The sister of actress Kangana Ranaut Rangoli Chandelier also shared an Instagram story praising the negative reviews of Pannu’s film.

Directed by Vinil Matthew, “Haseen Dillruba” also has Vikrant Massey and Harshvardhan Rane in key roles and is streaming on Netflix.
