Directed by Christian Ditter and based on the novel of the same name by Liz Tuccillo, “How to Be Single” follows a group of adults living in New York City as they each struggle to navigate the evolving dating landscape in a modern world. . The premise of the film is by no means unique – but, as is often the case with romantic comedies, most of its strength comes from the work of its various actors and its fun storyline.

Alison Brie, Anders Holm, Leslie Mann, and Rebel Wilson all deliver memorable and likable performances throughout the film. Although she is also surrounded by a wide range of well-known comedic artists, Dakota Johnson proves her worth both as a charming artist on the screen and as an actress who is totally capable of directing a film without franchise. Her character’s journey to independence is rare enough for a romantic comedy to describe as well, and is just one of many storylines throughout the film that takes an unexpected turn in its final act – which we won’t spoil. here!

Ultimately, while “How To Be Single” is by no means the most groundbreaking or inventive romantic comedy, that doesn’t mean it’s not a pleasant and charming movie on its own. In fact, it’s one of the most underrated ensemble romantic comedies of recent years – and you should definitely check it out (and Johnson’s central performance) on HBO Max today.
