Many ITV viewers have already been drawn to the new comedy-drama series The Larkins. The show is a reimagined version of The Darling Buds of May, following the Larkin family’s adventures in rural Kent in the 1950s. Actress Sabrina Bartlett plays the eldest daughter Mariette on the show and has big shoes to fill. after that the role previously belonged to Catherine Zeta-Jones. Speaking about the reboot series in a recent interview, Sabrina confessed that the series made some big changes to Mariette’s character.
In discussing her character, Sabrina made it clear that she was aware of the importance of the role, but said she wanted to portray Mariette in her own way.
The actress said: “I have to admit that I haven’t seen Darling Buds of May.
“It was something I had heard about, but while auditioning for the role, I didn’t watch the show, I didn’t look at any pictures, I just wanted my own take on the character in terms of how she was. appeared.
“At some point I would like to go back and review this, but I found it really helpful to have someone else’s character in my head while we were on set and doing. repeat, ”she explained.

Sabrina explained how The Larkins writers Simon Nye and Abigail Wilson wanted Mariette to be different on this series.
She said: “We had a lot of conversations about Mariette and how we wanted audiences to feel about her.
“She knows where she is going and she definitely has her own idea,” the actress revealed.
Speaking about her first impression of the character, Sabrina said, “What I liked when I read the script was that she is so self-sufficient and so independent.
Viewers can recognize Sabrina from her previous roles in Poldark, Victoria and more recently Bridgerton.
However, she’s not the only familiar face in the cast of the Darling Buds reboot series.
Bradley Walsh is leading the cast as Pop Larkin, a role previously played by David Jason.
Joanna Scanlan stars alongside Bradley as she stars as Ma Larkin.
Meanwhile, Peter Davison, Amelia Bullmore and Tony Gardener also feature in the cast of The Larkins.
The original Darling Buds of May television series ran for three seasons between 1991 and 1993 with a total of 20 episodes.
It’s unclear if The Larkins will have the same longevity, but there are four more episodes left of the current series.
The Larkins airs Sundays at 8 p.m. on ITV.
