ITV is gearing up for a brand new take on The Darling Buds of May.

There’s a new name, new script, and new cast for fans of the original to get to grips with.

The new series will be called The Larkins and ITV says it will be “a new adaptation of the iconic and much-loved HE Bates novels.”

Along with having a new storyline to understand, fans of the original series have a whole new cast to learn to love.

In a recent interview, one of the main cast admitted to never watching the original Darling Buds of May series.

Joanna Scanlan will play Ma Larkin in place of Pam Ferris, but was not a fan of the popular TV show at the time.

The actress made the revelation in a recent interview with Subway.

She said, “I haven’t seen the original ITV version from the 1980s and I think it’s because I was working at a summer camp in America when it came out.

“But I was absolutely delighted to be asked to be My Larkin, because the books meant so much to me as a teenager.”

The Darling Buds of May originally aired on ITV for three series between 1991 and 1993 and was an adaptation of the 1958 novel of the same name by HE Bates.

Joanna is best known for her television roles in The Thick of It, Getting On, and No Offense.

She has three BAFTA nominations under her belt and is one of the more seasoned members of the new cast.

During her interview with Metro, Joanna also reveled in the “absolute delight” of filming in the Kent countryside.

Alongside Joanna, Bradley Walsh will play Pop Larkin by David Jason.
